Playing with Logo's

I'm not an artist by any means, but of late, there's been some chatter on the internet that my favorite Linux distro hasn't got much of a logo. It's [#!] for CrunchBang.  So, how to make it bit different? I thought adding some texture, in this case, a picture of gravel from nearby.

As it usually happens with GIMP, I got a few different results...

Like I said, I'm not an artist, but it's fun to play with graphics...

  1. Call me old-fashioned, but I prefer your first attempt. Maybe I would change the font of "High speed, low drag" to the same font as "CrunchBang Linux", it will look more uniform.

    (Yes, when I reread my post: I am /definitely/ old-fashioned :-) )

  2. I agree, but I'm trying to make something look different than just... you know... #!

If i can offer some suggestion merelyjim,

Regardless of what your trying to go for creatively, you always want to make sure you can get the point across.

Particularly in this case, the font for 'high speed, low drag' is simply too wimpy to be read easily, especially in the last two variants. Try something bold, bigger font, or sans-serif.

  4. Yup, I gotta work on it some more, plus looking at it, the "high speed, low drag" just seems cocky, which isn't how I'd like to present myself or #!
